Active Communities Team
re:TH!NK’s Active Communities Team wants to increase the number of Winnebago County residents using active transportation (walking, bicycling, or using public transit) to access low- or no-cost local recreational facilities like trails, parks, and swimming pools. In Winnebago County, over half our residents aren’t getting enough physical activity, which can lead to poor health outcomes.
We are working to make sure everyone has equitable access to opportunities to be physically active, so we are focusing our efforts on “safe routes to recreation” to make it easier and safer for people to walk, bike or take transit to their local recreational facilities. The AC team is conducting safe routes to parks audits to assess what is working well and what could be better in the neighborhoods surrounding three priority parks, and will be making recommendations for improvements. The team also plans to teach other groups and municipal staff how to conduct the audits in other areas of Winnebago County.
If you want to make it easier and safer to walk or bike to your local park, join our team!
