May is National Bike Month and there is no shortage of events and activities in Winnebago County that highlight bicycling (and running/walking). We’ve pulled together a short list of events being hosted by our partners in community health:

Family Fun Night (Thursday, May 16 from 5:00-7:30pm): Family Fun Night is a free event focused around a Bike Rodeo to teach and refresh bicycle safety skills. This is an event that offers families a reason to get outside, and unplug from their electronics, to have some community fun. Food and drink will be available for purchase. Kids need a bicycle, helmet, and adult to participate. Family Fun Night will be held at Memorial Park in Neenah and is presented by the Neenah Police Department Bike Patrol. See last year’s full description on the Greater Valley Guide spotlight and let folks know you’re going on the Facebook event page.

Arya Cares Family Bike Ride (Saturday, May 18 at 9am): This bike ride is a very special one and is in memory of a wonderful little girl, Arya Vaughn. On May 3, 2018, 4 year old Arya, was riding her bike near her home. She was practicing riding and was wearing her bike helmet. Tragically, she rolled out in the roadway in the 1300 Block of W. South Park Ave in Oshkosh and was struck by a vehicle. Life saving measures were taken and Arya was transported to a local hospital. Arya however, did not survive. The funds raised from this event will stay in the Oshkosh community and will be used for: building children’s playgrounds at parks and schools and funding for field trips and other children’s activities. Sign up for the ride happening at Menominee Park (Kiwanis Shelter) at this link. More info is on the Arya Cares events page on Facebook.
