It has been a successful first year for the Connected Community Wellness Screen program at Oshkosh North and West High Schools! In collaboration with re:TH!NK’s Healthy Lifestyles Committee and the Winnebago County Health Department (WCHD), Samaritan Counseling Center of the Fox Valley first implemented the Wellness Screen in Oshkosh North and West High Schools in fall 2014 and has continued to screen students through the spring 2015 semester. Screening has been available to all students at both schools through parental and student consent.
The Connected Community Wellness Screen is a free and voluntary resource for students who want to have a mental health “check-in” and is a great program to ensure mental well-being for students. Two of WCHD’s AmeriCorps Members assisted the Samaritan counselors working for the Wellness Screen by walking the students through the screening and debriefing with them afterward. Over 200 students completed the screening in Oshkosh.
re:TH!NK and the Winnebago County Health Department was proud to support this necessary tool to assist teens in connecting with local mental health resources and providers.
