tobacco prevention and control
re:TH!NK's local tobacco prevention and control initatives are part of a larger, 5-county "multi-jurisdictional coalition" called re:TH!NK, the Lakeshore Tobacco Prevention Network. Members are working to improve the health of community residents by reducing tobacco use and exposure through prevention strategies and policy creation.
Tobacco use is still the #1 cause of preventable disease and death in Wisconsin, despite great strides made in the last 10 years to reduce youth and adult use rates, increase the cigarette tax and implement a smoke-free workplace law. The tobacco industry is aggressively targeting youth with candy- and fruit-flavored products designed to get them attracted and ultimately addicted.
The fight is not over! To learn more about how re:TH!NK is reducing the burden of tobacco use in Winnebago, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Kewaunee and Door counties, visit the Lakeshore Tobacco Prevention Network's website, www.rethinklakeshore.org.

Other Tobacco Products
The tobacco industry is shifting gears toward marketing new smokeless, spitless, fruit flavored and brightly colored tobacco products. These non-cigarette "other tobacco proucts" (OTPs) are a threat to Wisconsin' youth and the health of the public. See what we're doing to educate the community about the harm of OTP.

Fighting Against Corporate Tobacco (FACT)
FACT is a youth-led movement that takes action and creates change. Youth do it by exposing Big Tobacco's dirty secrets and deceptive practices. By empowering Wisconsin teens to stand up to an industry that's lying to us. And by understanding that FACT's fight is with the tobacco industry, not tobacco users. Check out the latest campaign called "Manipulicious" on the FACT website and take action!

Tobacco Compliance Checks
All Winnebago County law enforcement agencies participate in tobacco compliance investigations through the WI WINS Program, a collaborative effort between law enforcement, youth volunteers and local coalitions. WI Wins uses positive reinforcement to reduce illegal tobacco sales to minors. It congratulates local clerks who do not sell tobacco to youth, while educating those who would. This approach creates community pride by reducing youth access to tobacco products and provides youth a chance to make a difference in their community. For more information about WI WINS, visit wiwins.org
2010 Completed Investigations: 102
2010 Illegal Sales: 5
2010 Non-Compliance Rate: 5%
2009 Non-Compliance Rate: 25%
