Wisconsin Association on Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (WAAODA) Advocates on behalf of prevention and recovery issues.

AWARE (All-Wisconsin Alcohol Risk Education) is a UW Health-convened coalition to improve the health and safety of Wisconsin residents in the fight against alcohol abuse by pursuing legislative initiatives such as reducing drunk driving and increasing the beer tax.


National Resources

Teens Health A teen friendly website dedicated to getting information out in a simple format. Site includes quiz taking, top ten lists, hot topics, newsletters, and information on survival strategies if their parent is an alcoholic, and more.

Above the Influence A premiere site that promotes action from the teen viewer including downloadable activities, sketch pads, ways to make your own video or tell a personal story, ads, games, puzzles, facts, and ways to get help for others.

We Don't Serve Teens We Don't Serve Teens is a national campaign to prevent underage drinking. The Federal Trade Commission, the nation's consumer protection agency, prepared and maintains this site

Center for Disease Control To strengthen the scientific foundation for prevention of excessive alcohol consumption. The Alcohol Team uses CDC public health surveillance systems, including the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, to monitor trends in binge and underage drinking, and to assess related health impacts.

Tobacco Control Resource Center for Wisconsin An online ‘hub’ of data and information about tobacco prevention and control that connects the community, lawmakers, health professionals and tobacco control coordinators.

Smoke Free Wisconsin A non-profit organization that promotes and advocates for effective tobacco control policies, prevention of youth starting tobacco use, and funding for comprehensive tobacco prevention and control programs statewide.

The Wisconsin 18-24 YO Project A statewide group engages young adults in actions that raise awareness about the burden of tobacco for 18-24 year olds.

FACT (Fighting Against Corporate Tobacco) A youth-led movement for 13-18 year olds that exposes how the tobacco industry targets youth through its products and advertising.

Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids Advocates for stronger regulation of the tobacco industry and collects reports and research about tobacco prevention and control.

American Legacy Foundation The Foundation’s mission is to build a world where young people reject tobacco and anyone can quit. They also develop programs that address the health effects of tobacco use.

American Council for Drug Education The ACDE is a prevention and education agency against substance abuse. This website includes a helpful list of symptoms associated with specific drugs.

National Clearinghouse for Alcohol and Drug Information This organization provides resources and referrals related to drug and alcohol abuse. Call: 1-800-729-6686 for more information.

National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens (NIDA for Teens) NIDA offers a science-based drug abuse education program for students, news, information, and resources.

Wisconsin Prevention Network Serves as a coordinating body to educate the general public and funding services about primary prevention; coordinate the exchange of information with other prevention workers and groups; develop technical assistance to members in the areas of funding, program development, evaluation and other resources.

Wisconsin Clearinghouse for Prevention Resources A statewide prevention resource center that focuses on helping youth, families, schools, and communities lead healthy, productive lives through prevention education and activities.

American Cancer Society Has a variety of resources that range from facts and data, prevention information, treatment options and how the community can get involved.

Check Yourself This youth friendly site allows visitors to "look in the mirror" by answering quiz questions about their lifestyle, reading first-person stories, communicating with other teens, and playing decision games to see how they might act in situations involving drugs and alcohol. CheckYourself.com also gives teens a voice by allowing them to share their own "moments of truth".
