County Receives Grant from DOT to Conduct Bike/Ped Study
In 2015, Winnebago County will begin the process to create a county-wide bicycle and pedestrian plan, focusing on connecting the rural parts of the county with existing routes/trails and other bike/ped plans in order to make biking and walking easier for residents that want to travel from "point A to point B." Cooking up Ratatouille for School Lunches, Farm to School Style!
Winnebago County Farm to School and the food service staff from Omro, Winneconne, and Oshkosh school districts are teaming up to prepare and freeze 1250 lbs of Ratatouille sauce to be served this school year. The sauce will feature locally-grown tomatoes, squash, eggplant, peppers, onions, garlic, and fresh herbs from farms within a 50 mile radius. Over 12,000 students will have the opportunity to eat the ratatouille sauce in their school lunch in various dishes like pasta, wraps, and pizza. Fun school events will be held to promote the sauce, like showing clips of the movie Ratatouille, sending home colorful fliers with nutrition information, recipes and games, and having volunteers hand out samples of the dish while inspiring the children to try it.
re:TH!NK & Winnebago County Health Department's Support of Wellness Screen
This fall, re:TH!NK and the Winnebago County Health Department are excited to support Samaritan Counseling Center in their implementation of the Connected Community Wellness Screen at Oshkosh West and Oshkosh North High Schools. In collaboration with re:TH!NK's Healthy Lifestyles committee, the Connected Community Wellness Screen is a free, voluntary, and confidential resource for students who want to have a mental health "check-in" and is a great program to ensure mental well-being for students. So far, the program has been well-received!
